Gallanza is one of the six new playable characters added with Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok, and you normally unlock him without spending an ordinary Crewmate Card. Progress through the Hard-difficulty quests added during Chapter Ø until the special "New Allies" scene becomes available, then use the Gallanza-specific Crewmate Card at Sierokarte's Knickknack Shack. If you already watched that scene but never received the card, update the game and travel to Folca or Seedhollow: Ver. 2.0.3 added a recovery method for affected saves.

Gallanza is presented by Cygames as the "Silver Wolf," an indomitable general of the Pilgrims of Avia who fights with a great spear and lives for a worthy deathmatch. That identity carries into the practical reason to try him: he is a better fit for players who enjoy a deliberate frontline character than for players looking for the safest mobile ranged option. He is not a character you need to rush just because he is new. His normal unlock route is tied to progression, so it makes sense to earn the card, test him in content you already know, and only then decide how deeply to invest in his weapon, sigils, MSP, and Master Traits.

Gallanza unlock requirements

The official Endless Ragnarok unlock information places Gallanza and Maglielle in the same progression group. Unlike Beatrix and Eustace, who each use a normal Crewmate Card, Gallanza and Maglielle use their own special cards.

StepWhat to doWhat it means
1Reach Chapter Ø in RelinkGallanza is not an immediate new-save recruit
2Progress through the added Hard-difficulty questsSpecific Hard progression triggers the relevant event
3Watch the special "New Allies" sceneThis is tied to the Gallanza/Maglielle special-card route
4Receive Crewmate Card: GallanzaIt does not consume the ordinary card you could use on Beatrix or Eustace
5Trade the card at Sierokarte's Knickknack ShackGallanza becomes available as a playable character

This is worth understanding before spending resources elsewhere. Gallanza is fundamentally different from Fraux and Fediel, who can be accelerated with two ordinary cards each. His official route is a progression unlock, so the efficient choice is to continue the required Hard quests rather than treating him as another ordinary-card purchase.

For all six routes in one place, use the Endless Ragnarok character roster.

Missing the Gallanza Crewmate Card? Use the 2.0.3 recovery method

There was a real launch-period problem that can make older unlock advice confusing. Cygames documented a rare bug in Ver. 2.0.3 that could prevent players from receiving Crewmate Card: Gallanza and Crewmate Card: Maglielle.

If your save appears to be affected, do not keep repeating unrelated Hard quests indefinitely. First make sure the game is updated. Then confirm that you have already watched the "New Allies" cutscene. After that, travel to Folca or Seedhollow. Cygames says the update added a method that awards the missing cards there for players who had seen the scene but had not yet unlocked Gallanza or Maglielle.

That distinction matters for troubleshooting. If you have not reached the event yet, keep progressing through the correct Chapter Ø Hard content. If you have seen the event and the card is missing, use the recovery route. Mixing those two situations is why an unlock can look broken when the save simply has not reached the prerequisite.

What kind of player should try Gallanza?

Gallanza is an appealing choice when you want your attacks to feel committed. His official character identity centers on a great spear and direct confrontation, and his combat terminology in the current patch notes includes Wild Showman and Deathmatch Finale. That is enough to tell you that his gameplay has character-specific state management beyond simply pressing a generic heavy attack, but it is better to learn that state through actual play than to copy a rigid rotation from an old launch clip.

Use three familiar quests as your first evaluation. On the first run, pay attention to whether you can finish your important attacks without being knocked out of position. On the second, deliberately practice staying close enough to capitalize on openings without greedily extending every sequence. On the third, look at how comfortably you can build and spend SBA while still doing the basic job of surviving and maintaining damage uptime.

If that rhythm feels satisfying, Gallanza is a sensible candidate for deeper progression. If you constantly wish you could disengage, reposition, and keep firing, Eustace is probably a more natural experiment. If you want a more technical melee character with a different decision pattern, Beatrix gives you another comparison point.

What Ver. 2.0.5 changed for Gallanza

Gallanza received a specific bug fix in the August 28, 2026 Ver. 2.0.5 update. Cygames says a bug could allow him to activate his Skybound Art without a full SBA gauge while he entered Deathmatch Finale or reached the maximum level of Wild Showman. Ver. 2.0.5 fixed that behavior.

For a current player, the practical consequence is straightforward: do not judge Gallanza's present SBA timing from pre-2.0.5 footage that appears to trigger an SBA before the gauge is full. That behavior was not a secret optimization that the developers intended players to reproduce; it was explicitly identified and fixed as a bug.

This also changes how you should test older build or rotation advice. If an old clip seems to gain unusual value from the transition into Deathmatch Finale or max Wild Showman, separate the legitimate part of the setup from the no-longer-valid SBA activation. A current guide should assume normal SBA requirements on Ver. 2.0.5.

You can follow future character fixes through the latest Endless Ragnarok patch notes.

How to build Gallanza without wasting resources

There is a temptation with a newly unlocked character to copy a finished endgame loadout immediately. A safer route is to build around the problem you can actually observe.

First, make Gallanza functional in a quest you know well. Give him enough survivability that a missed timing does not end the test. A theoretical damage increase is not useful if you are repeatedly interrupted or forced away from the target before completing the sequence you are trying to learn.

Second, check damage-cap behavior before stacking more raw offense. Ver. 2.0.2 added a training feature with Sir Barrold that can display damage as a percentage of the damage cap. When your relevant hits are already reaching or exceeding 100% of the displayed cap, adding more attack without addressing cap-related limits can produce less value than expected. Use the training room to diagnose that rather than assuming every low result needs more ATK.

Third, delay expensive specialization until Master Traits are available. Master Traits unlock for level-100 characters after reaching the Fatebreaker skyfarer grade. At that point, MSP can raise Master Level and additional Master Traits can be equipped. Style combinations can unlock passive Master Style effects. Because this is a separate progression layer, it is better to understand Gallanza's normal combat first and then choose traits that reinforce how you actually use him.

Finally, test one change at a time. If you alter weapon progression, sigils, Master Traits, and your rotation simultaneously, you will not know which change fixed the problem. One controlled change followed by the same familiar quest produces much better information.

Gallanza materials and progression clues

The Ver. 2.0.2 update also identifies Gallanza-specific progression materials in the Knickknack Shack exchange table, including Gallanza Anamnesis and Alpha Wolf's Valor. Their presence is a useful reminder that unlocking the character is only the first step; character-specific growth continues through the wider Endless Ragnarok progression economy.

Do not farm a material simply because Gallanza's name appears on it. Open the upgrade you are currently pursuing, identify the exact missing requirement, and then choose the quest or exchange that supplies it. This keeps character growth tied to a concrete goal instead of turning the entire expansion into an undirected material grind.

The same rule applies to Conflux. It can supply important upgrade materials, but temporary Conflux traits can make a character perform differently from ordinary quests. Use Conflux to progress and experiment, not as the only environment in which you decide whether a permanent Gallanza setup is good.

Gallanza first-session checklist

  1. Update to the current version before troubleshooting his unlock or SBA behavior.
  2. Progress Chapter Ø Hard quests until the Gallanza/Maglielle event triggers.
  3. If you already watched "New Allies" but lack the card, travel to Folca or Seedhollow after updating.
  4. Unlock Gallanza at the Knickknack Shack with his special card.
  5. Take him into a quest you already know instead of immediately testing him in your hardest Chaos content.
  6. Learn safe attack windows and SBA flow before spending heavily on optimization.
  7. Use Sir Barrold's damage-cap display when evaluating offensive changes.
  8. Revisit the build after Fatebreaker and Master Traits become relevant.

Gallanza is therefore a particularly low-risk character to experiment with: his intended unlock does not compete with the normal Crewmate Card you may want for Beatrix or Eustace, and the Ver. 2.0.3 recovery method protects affected older saves. The main current-version warning is Ver. 2.0.5's SBA fix. Once you account for that, the useful question is not whether Gallanza is universally "top tier," but whether his deliberate frontline rhythm fits the way you want to play repeated quests.
