Endless Ragnarok Editions and Platforms: What to Buy

Compare Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok editions, Upgrade Kits, platforms, physical copies, Special extras, and co-op requirements before buying.

Last verified 2026-07-308 min read

Buy the Upgrade Kit only if your library already owns Granblue Fantasy: Relink on the platform where you will play. Otherwise, buy the full Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok Standard Edition. Standard is the sensible default for almost everyone; choose Special only when you have read the extras and want them. The expansion is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and Steam, with cross-platform online co-op—but a game license does not transfer between those stores.

Start by opening the account library on your intended platform. That one check tells you whether $29.99 is a complete upgrade for you or an unusable add-on.

The first row is the purchase most returning players need. If the wording still makes the expansion look like a separate sequel, read whether Endless Ragnarok is a new game before you check out.

Choose your platform before your edition

Cygames lists Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam as launch platforms. Pick the platform where your friends, preferred controls, and existing base-game ownership line up—not the one that happens to show the cheapest-looking add-on.

Platform questionPractical answer
Can friends on different platforms play together?Yes. Endless Ragnarok supports crossplay across the listed platforms for online co-op.
Does crossplay transfer my purchase? No. A Steam, PlayStation, or Switch 2 entitlement remains on that storefront. Check ownership again if you are changing platforms.
Can I play alone?Yes. Online play is optional; the game supports one player as well as online co-op.
What does PlayStation online co-op require? An internet connection and PlayStation Plus. Solo play does not need PS Plus.
I own the PS4 base game but now use PS5—do I need the full bundle? No. The PlayStation Store says the PS4 base game can be upgraded to PS5 at no additional cost on the same account; verify that entitlement, then use the Upgrade Kit.

For a group purchase, make each player run the same check: base-game ownership on their own platform, the current game update, and the correct expansion entitlement. Crossplay removes a matchmaking barrier; it does not make one person’s add-on satisfy another person’s purchase requirement. See the crossplay guide for the session-readiness checklist.

Standard versus Special: make the extra cost earn itself

Standard gets the expansion itself. It is the right default for a new player who wants to try Relink, a returning player focused on new story and gameplay content, or anyone who has not already decided they want cosmetics and convenience items.

Special adds the Endless Ragnarok Special Pack and the existing Relink DLC Collection. Cygames lists special character colors for the captain, Id, and Sandalphon, plus items such as Azurite's Splendor, Canaan Whitebloom, and Supreme Weapon Essence in the Special Pack; the collection includes prior upgrade items, color packs, and emotes. Those are real extras, but they are not a separate campaign, platform, or progression requirement.

Use this rule:

  1. Choose the ownership path first: full edition for a newcomer, Upgrade Kit for an existing same-platform owner.
  2. Choose Standard if you want the core game and expansion at the lowest tier.
  3. Choose the matching Special tier only when you can name the included extras you want now.
  4. Before buying any bundle, compare its contents with DLC you already own. Cygames warns that some content is also sold individually or included in other products.

The Special Edition guide breaks down the pack contents and the duplicate-purchase checks. If price is your deciding factor, use the current price guide rather than converting a US list price into your local currency.

Full edition, Upgrade Kit, and physical copy: common traps

The $29.99 listing is not a new-player bargain

In the US, Cygames lists the Standard Upgrade Kit at $29.99 and the full Standard Edition at $59.99. The lower number is not a discounted standalone game: the product guide says an Upgrade Kit requires the base Granblue Fantasy: Relink game. If the base game is absent from the same platform library, stop and select a full edition instead.

A full edition is not automatically better for an owner

The full Standard Edition includes a base-game license as well as the Upgrade Kit. It is the clean answer for a newcomer, but usually duplicates the base game for an established owner. Confirm your library before letting a retailer bundle or a console change turn into a second purchase.

Physical is about format, not exclusive core content

The official comparison lists a physical Standard Edition, while the Special editions and Upgrade Kits are digital. Buy the disc if you are new and prefer a physical console copy; buy digital if you already own Relink or want a Special tier. For a first-production or retailer bonus, ask whether that exact copy includes a usable code before paying extra—Cygames says physical bonus content is limited to the first production run. The physical edition guide has a store-counter checklist.

A safe checkout checklist

  1. Choose the platform you will actually use. Do not base the decision on a friend’s license or another platform’s library.
  2. Check for Granblue Fantasy: Relink on that account. Owned there means Upgrade Kit; not owned there means a full edition.
  3. Compare Standard with the matching Special tier. Do not compare a $29.99 Upgrade Kit with a $79.99 full Special Edition as if they serve the same player.
  4. Read the included-items list. This matters most for Special bundles and any DLC you have already bought.
  5. Verify the live regional store page. $29.99/$54.99/$59.99/$79.99 are US list-price reference points verified July 30, 2026; sales, tax, currency, and availability can differ.
  6. For co-op, check your group before launch night. Everyone needs their own correct platform purchase and an updated game; PlayStation players also need PS Plus for online play.

Buy, skip, or wait?

DecisionChoose it whenNext action
Buy Standard nowYou know which platform you will use and want the expansion’s playable content.Choose the Upgrade Kit or full edition according to your library.
Buy Special nowYou have checked the Special Pack/DLC Collection and would otherwise buy or strongly value those extras.Match Special to your ownership path and check for duplicate DLC.
Try before buyingYou are unsure whether Relink’s combat and feel suit you.Use the official demo route, then return to the correct full edition or Upgrade Kit.
WaitYou are between platforms, waiting for a sale, or cannot confirm your existing entitlement.Do not buy an add-on until you choose the platform and see the live storefront.

The purchase decision should be mechanical: platform, base-game ownership, then edition tier. Follow that order and Endless Ragnarok’s similar store names stop being a risk. If you are new to the game, begin with the full Standard Edition; if you own Relink on the platform you will play, the Standard Upgrade Kit is the low-risk default.
